With the development of the next networks, there is no doubt that IPv6 will take the place of IPv4.and there will be more and more IPv6 applications combined with Ad Hoc networks which has the self organization function. So it is very important to do research on the handover protocol of the IPv6 based Ad Hoc networks.Networks no matter it with or without infrastructures, the main function of Mobile IPv6 is to provide a IP routing mechanism. For mobile node use a permanent IP address to connect any networks as well as not involved by upper levels. The key technology is the handover during the move from one subnet to another.Firstly,This paper first exhausted the procedure of handover from link layer to network layer. Introduced the current handover algorithm and compared these algorithms with each other. Then introduced the background knowledge of Ad Hoc networks, analyzed the differences of IPv6 under WLAN and Ad Hoc networks, figured out the modification of IPv6 under Ad hoc networks. Forward a basic algorithm for IPv6 based Ad Hoc networks.Secondly, according to basic algorithm for IPv6 based Ad Hoc networks, combined with the thought of the fast handover this paper proposed A-MIPv6 handover algorithm. Introduced the modification of A-MIPv6 from basic algorithm. And give out the detail of the A-MIPv6 algorithm in each phase of the handover.At last, to support the solution and algorithm proposed, designed a handover software test system under LINUX system core 2.6.16, and introduced the detail design of this system. Then, set up a test environment, used the handover software test system tested the two handover algorithm. got a lot of test data, According to these test data verified the function and performance of the proposed algorithm.
