Reconfigurable digital systems have been developed on the basis of microprocessor and ASICs, which can achieve much better performance than microprocessor and maintains a higher level of flexibility than ASICs. The dynamic reconfiguration capacity enables the systems to dynamically reconfigure their hardware while working, thus the whole function of a larger sequential system can be realized step by step via a smaller hardware capacity. In the process of reconfiguring, the system might work discontinuously, and therefore it is necessary to use corresponding resource and task management strategies so as to ensure that the system operates correctly and has a better performance.Reconfigurable digital systems based on multi-contexts and partially reconfigurable digital systems are two distinct kinds of dynamic reconfigurable schemes. At present, research on strategies of resource and task management based on multi-context reconfigurable digital systems is far behind, for most of the domestic researches in the related fields focus only on partially reconfigurable digital systems. Because of this, the present thesis proposes a model—the multi-dimensional space-time (MDS-T) resorce management model applicable to reconfigurable digital systems based on multi-contexts—and reports an in-depth study on corresponding strategies used for resource and task management on the basis of the model. The thesis consists of the following parts. The first part introduces methods of dividing tasks and modules in reconfigurable digital systems, followed by a discussion on the impact bought by the division outcomes on task and resource management. Then it analyzes the general form of a task model in multi-dimensional reconfigurable digital systems and highlights the main features of the existing one-dimensional and two-dimensional models of resource management for the reference of modeling resource management in multi-dimensional reconfigurable digital systems. The second part discusses the general approach of resource management modeling in multi-dimensional reconfigurable digital systems. It proposes a MDS-T resource management model and discusses how such a model can be tansformed into two-dimensional models through the space-time mapping method, and how to adjust the space-time mapping relationship within the constraints under different conditions. The final part presents the design of strategies based on MDS-T resource management model. Detailed analyses and evaluations of the strategies are also conducted, using a number of parameters, under the condition that the system's utility of the external memory is at maximum or its execution time is at minimum.
