As an alternative means of cable monitoring, the wireless video surveillance system which based on embedded system, combined with two technologies of the number of wireless network and embedded system, with its reasonably priced, high-performance, low-power, secure and flexible layout, has become "a real way to monitor the next generation". Integrating the function of hardware with that of software, the embedded system is a small computer system to do a specialized job, and the wireless communication technology is also an important digital communication technology in the last one or two decades. So, against this background, this paper sets out the design and implementation process of the video surveillance system which based on ARM, Linux and wireless transmission technology. This system can be applied to the reconnaissance, industrial elevator etc.The wireless video surveillance system consists of three sub-systems which is complex and independent. The first part is the embedded system which based on ARM and Linux covers the task-controlling function, configuring function and video image acquisition and processing function. The second part is the wireless transmission system which based on WIFI. It uses the wireless mesh network architecture to ensure the center station to get a clear picture at all times, also ensures that the video streaming signal from other wireless devices is secure and private. The third part is the central monitoring station which is used C/S system architecture together with the embedded systems. The monitoring tasks are distributed to the client and server reasonably to reduce the system overhead of communication. So, the real-time video streams from multiple sources can be efficiently transported to the central monitoring station.In this paper, the overall structure of the system is found after the analysis of systematic concrete need. On the hardware side, the circuit board which is composed mainly of by the ARM processor and peripheral circuits is designed in view of the hardware characteristics. On the software side, the Linux operating system which meets the specific needs of the specific tasks and dynamic tasks is cut and assembled in view of the stability and real-time, error-correcting capacity. The camera and so on other equipment's drivers which is based on the Linux operating system and the video image acquisition and processing procedure application is also designed. In the final, through the point-to-point wireless transmission system structures and the system integration and testing, the feasibility of the whole system is confirmed.
