Combined with wireless network technique and embedded technology, embedded wireless video surveillance has developed as new direction in embedded system field. The exploitation of embedded system is based on embedded hardware platform and embedded operating system. ARM architecture has been used widely in embedded hardware platform. In this embedded OS area, embedded Linux has become the mainstream operating system. Embedded Linux can be applied on many kinds of platform and it also support strong network function. Our design of wireless video surveillance system consists of ARM9 hardware architecture and embedded Linux operating system.This paper is composed of five sections. Section I & II describes the concept of wireless video surveillance system and embedded system. Section III analyses how to build general embedded Linux system. Section IV introduces our system from three aspects: transplant of bootloader, transplant of Linux kernel and the building of embedded root filesystem. This section summarizes the architecture of USB camera driver and wireless network card driver in detail. Section V introduces how to configure ad-hoc and infrastructure network mode in our system. In the last section, Author put forward the trend of embedded wireless video surveillance system.
