This paper introduces the research status and development of the signal generator in brief, and elaborates the traditional signal generator and digital signal generator design principle in details. The characteristics and advantages of the digital signal generator are narrated from the function, cost, size and weight. The overall program of the system design is given on this basis.The program design includes hardware and software design, and these two parts are further elaborated.The hardware circuit's design of the system mainly includes system power circuit design, CPU and its peripheral circuit design, human-computer interaction interface circuit design, Dual-port RAM circuit and so on. The system uses a dual-CPU structure; it is composed of HCI realized by ATMega128 SCM and waveform occurrence realized by TMS320F2812DSP.The system's software design mainly includes three parts: peripheral module driver's software design, system design to deal with the main program, the program design of the digital waveform signal to achieve. The driver module is designed to provide a reliable communication interface to facilitate the realization of system functions; system design to deal with the main program mainly includes dual-CPU communications as well as the digital waveform signals' generation and display. The digital waveform signals' generation is achieved by DSP's timer interrupt service routine. A timer interrupt is generated every 1ms, and timer interrupt service routine can produce three digital signals: step, constant speed and sinusoidal. These signals can be used to test performances of digital servo system and other measurement circuits.After the software debugging process, three kinds of waveform signal produced by the digital signal generator have the characteristics of high accuracy, waveform stability and small distortion; and the digital signal generator has the advantages of simple operation, reliable and stable work, practice, and has a good application prospect.
