It'is a consistent goal for all the TV media to look after that how to edit a TV news program to attract audience's ever-lasting attention. This kind of TV program should not only get rid of the traditional broadcasting pattern, but also convey its own time-effect and authority to the audience. Also, it is hoped that this new TV program pattern could influence audience through TV anchors'ideas and expressions about the certain issue broadcasted on this program. During the past decades, TV media from US and China have been making efforts to create the pattern of their news programs and adjust their anchorman's style. The appearance of a brand new TV news program pattern, magazine-format documentary series, changed audience's original ideas about the TV news program and dragged them back to the television.This thesis focuses on the concept of magazine-format documentary series. And firstly offers a general review on the definitions, features, functions of the magazine-format documentary series; then it picks up two programs, 60 minutes from CBS(Columbia Broadcasting System) and Oriental Horizon from CCTV(China Central Television), the most representative TV programs in the two nations, as a case study. After analyzing the following four facts of both programs, which are overall TV program-pattern, the settings of programs, and their images, as well as the functions of anchorman, this paper presents a conclusion about the trend of China's TV magazine-format documentary series.
