Mass Customization (MC) aims at providing customized products with the efficiency and cost of mass production. Product configuration management deploys product according to customer's order on the basis of static product structure model. It is an important supporting technology for Mass Customization.This dissertation studies the theories and applications of product configuration management for MC. Firstly, the principles of setting off module with basic module, forced-choice module and optional module and parts encoding system with"SML-ID and Part-ID"are put forward. The main structure of autoclaves is set up as the platform for product automatic configuration. Secondly, based on the basic theory of product configuration, it discusses the storage form of BOM tree in the relational database, studies the exchange program between the tree structure and relational tables and product automatic configuration program based on feature matching. Then, in order to achieve the full functions of product configuration system, three additional key techniques of the product configuration for MC are discussed, including the construction of customer order collection web site based on ASP, the showing of 3D shapes in the web pages based on viewpoint and the release of product configuration information based on XML. Finally, based on the series of autoclaves of the Shandong Xinhua Medical Instrument CO., the product configuration prototype system for MC is developed. With the bottom supporting of SQL Server 2000, we develop the autoclaves customization website based on B/S mode using ASP and the client software of product configuration based on C/S mode using VB6.0. With the integration of 3D design software and XML, we carry out the autoclaves'automatic configuration based on customer order, which can instruct the following design and production processes.
