Space traveling wave tube (TWT) is the core component of satellite transponder and spaceborne synthetic aperture radar transmitter, Therefore, it is knew as the "heart" of satellite communication systems. With the rapid development of satellite communi- cations, Space TWT has been more and more widely applied, requirements of it has a good reliability and life more and more. High reliability and long life design of Space TWT are the technical difficulties which are concerned by all over the world. It directly relates to stability and service life of the entire satellite communication systems, but reliability and life of space TWT are the seriously constrained by thermal problem. Therefore, research of space TWT's hot properties has become an important job in development of the entire tube.This paper discussed the hot mechanisms of electron gun, slow-wave structure and collector of space TWT, on this basis, carried on the detailed thermal analysis to gave off heat the most serious part—collector with finite element method. The content of this article mainly includes following four aspects:1. Having calculated the electron trajectory of collector by using wide band high efficiency traveling wave tube CAD integration environment (TWTCAD), and converted heat dissipation power of collector into heat flow density on different position of internal surface of collector.2. Has considered the contact thermal resistance and the heat radiation factor in the thermal analysis process, by contrast and analysis, obtained influence situation of contact thermal resistance and heat radiation to collector's temperature distribution.3. Having carried on the heat-structure coupling analysis to the collector, has calculated collector's electron trajectory after having heat deformation, and has made the judgment to the collector stable state work's reliability.4. Having improved heat dissipation method of collector, proposed two kind of concrete plans, and pointed out respective characteristic of two kinds of plan, made temperature of space TWT further reduce, guaranteed well the tube work's reliability.
