Along with the complication of the mechanical system, how to obtain the dynamic loads and dynamic intensity is paid more and more attentions to by scholars all over the world. FEA and multi-body dynamics are the most popular ways to simulate a mechanical system. Generally, FEA method can get the intensity but cannot get dynamic information, especially when a system has large displacement. Multi-body dynamics performs well in obtaining the kinematics and nonlinear displacement information, dynamic response and loads, but it is difficult to know the stress distribution inside the structure.This paper attempts to take advantages of FEA and multi-body dynamics and integrate their merits to obtain the dynamic response messages as well as the stress distribution in the meanwhile. The idea is, the dynamic loads obtained by muti-body is used as the input load for FEA model, so as to transfer the dynamic problem to static one, and the dynamic stress distribution can be got after FEA because its input is no longer the static loads but dynamic loads. The main processes are as following, Firstly, by comparing the results of traditional calculation way, FEA and multi-body simulation gotten from the same system, make a blue print for research work.Secondly, summarize the key points of hybrid simulation method by detail analysis, and find out the relevant resolvents.Thirdly, verify the feasibility of hybrid simulation method by simulation tests. The main content of this paper are as following. First of all, find out that the main difficulties of hybrid simulation method are hybrid modeling (to guarantee the coherence of the models for FEA and multi-body simulation) and the obtaining way as well as management of the dynamic load data. Second, by analyzing and comparing the different graphical interfaces and application the modal analysis method under the principle of modal reduction, making the model transformation successful and making sure that the hybrid models on different simulation platform are consistent. Third, the dynamic load data, which is from multi-body simulation, is transferred successfully by analyzing the structure of the input and output data files of simulation platforms. And the load data can also be applied on FEA model correctly and automatically through researching on the corresponding relationship of nodes in different models. Thus, the whole circuit of hybrid simulation method can be achieved. Fourth, taking triple reduction gears as the application object, the hybrid simulation tests are carried out. It shows that hybrid simulation process is successful and can be implemented.The results show that, dynamic response and approximate dynamic intensity can be obtained at the same circle of simulation by hybrid simulation method. So the feasibility of this method is validated.
