Workflow-based Training Management Information System

Facing fierce competition from foreign classification societies in the rapid development of the shipping industry, CCS increasingly attaches emphasis to its most precious resource - human resource. The Shanghai Training Center of CCS is committed to various trainings in this respect and an advanced and customer-oriented training management information system is particularly important as a supporting platform for the Centre.Training management information system is developed basing on the workflow of Shanghai Training Center of CCS. This system uses an advanced workflow technique. Centralized control and dynamic management of training information is realized by integrating and managing all kinds of training information including information on trainees, teachers, courses and materials as well as controlling approving procedures. The system covers, among others, training demand, teaching schedule, training plan, training effect evaluation, training assessment and training records, capable of meeting practical training demands of CCS and improving training efficiency due to its powerful functions of inquiring, providing statistics and releasing information. With this system, the training is standardized and streamlined.Workflow is a key technique for modeling, simulation, optimization and final automation of business process of an enterprise. Research on and promotion of workflow technique is significant for the informationization of an enterprise. This paper elaborates on the concept, trends and developments of workflow, and the significant application of this technique to the training management system, in the context of current training projects. Functional modules and system architecture of the training management information system are described and design and realization of the system explained, taking into account of the characteristics of and demand for training.
