The history of world periodicals have undergone over 300 years, the forerunners have accumulated a series of mature operation models in such a long history. And a great many of world-renowned periodicals have emerged, such as《Time》,《National Geographic》,《Reader's Digest》,《The Economist》, and so on. These excellent periodicals, either in contents, or in management, have a lot of merits deserve our study. For Chinese periodicals, copyright exchange with their foreign counterparts, through various possible modes, is the most important mode currently, especially in contents. That is to say, Chinese periodicals avail of a proportional content of foreign edition, and draft the rest of the content. This is the major operation model for Chinese periodical exchange. Chinese official is encouraging local periodicals to exchange copyright with foreign ones. Statistics showed that there are 51 Chinese periodical have established copyright exchanges with foreign counterparts till 2006. Academic and fashionable periodicals dominated these ones, while sports periodical is a minor part. In the summer of 2006, the world famous《Sports Illustrated》published Chinese《Sports Illustrated》through copyright exchange. The Chinese《Sports Illustrated》challenged the Chinese sports periodical market. Chinese sports newspaper has down from its peak facing the growing internet technology, can Chinese《Sports Illustrated》earn a market in such a circumstance? The thesis focus on the operation of Chinese《Sports Illustrated》, hopes to explore the current Chinese sports periodical market, and find out an ideal model for Chinese sports periodical. On the preface, the thesis explained the research object and target on choosing the subject, and introduced the major research methods adopted in the thesis and the current research outcome. In the second chapter, I explored the edition design of Chinese《Sports Illustrated》, both in qualitative and quantitative methods, from the cover, column design, column to review, and explained the cover in the method of semiotics. The third chapter, I contrasted the Chinese《Sports Illustrated》and《new sports》from the point of quantitative on the features, and reach the disadvantage and disadvantage aspects of the two periodicals. The forth chapter, on the basis of quantitative results from the former chapter, I summarized the uniqueness of the content of Chinese《Sports Illustrated》, which is it's most competitive point in the market. The fifth chapter analyzed the audience target of Chinese《Sports Illustrated》, and its risks of choosing upper-class readers, I also analyzed it's methods on interaction with audiences. The sixth chapter analyzed the operation and management of Chinese《Sports Illustrated》, I also explained the importance on the research of the organization. In the last, I summarized the advantages and shortages of Chinese《Sports Illustrated》, and point out the ideal development model for Chinese sports periodical.
