The traditional digital telephone switch network, which is widely used by the telecommunication carriers at present, now faces serious challenge. The old switch module has big problems in many areas such as software and hardware performance, production and maintenance cost and integration with the next generation network. In order to resolve above problems, the author deeply researches the core circuit pack in switch module. Combining with the embedded technology, the new switch module is developed. It benefits the application of embedded technology. The author introduces the design which is based on the embedded system, Power PC, and introduces the software and hardware structure, system equipment engineering and installation and testing.How to build a high stable and high reliable new switch module system that can be used in the world-wide telecommunication industry is the focus of the thesis.From the hardware perspective, Power PC 750FX is the 32-bit embedded chip from IBM Power PC family, which is used as the main controller. Combined with the new message handler circuit pack, the core circuit pack and interface are designed. The hardware part of the system is designed to meet the requirement to build a low power consumption, high speed, large capacity, high reliable and high stable system.From the software perspective, in order to improve the reliability, stability and multitask of the software, many unique maintain software are being developed by using the application software design. In addition, the software structure needs modification in order to be compatible with the existing system and facilitate the installation and usage of this new system on real site.The solution of new switch module is based on the current switch module, by selecting the latest software release version and latest unit, to increase the capacity and enrich the application usage, meanwhile to smoothly update to next generate network. The software and hardware capacity is improved while the cost of production and maintenance is reduced. The new switch module is more benefit for customer for their switch as PHS, Local Toll switch, tendor switch, STP or Gateway switch. The product has been delivered to the Hai Yang City in China Shan Dong Province. It has been performed into business market and provides the service for almost 40,000 customers. The first office application showed that the software and hardware performance is greatly improved, but the production and maintenance cost is greatly reduced. Next, the product will be general available to the world market including America and China. The new switch module is the more successful produce since 2004. It is approved that the following advantages comparing with the previous version of switch module.Large capacity: The capacity of one unit equals to the previous one cabinet.
