Peer-to-peer (P2P) network is a novel technology that economically andefficiently delivers multimedia service to end user. According to the statistic collected in recent years, peer-to-peer, which is the most predominant application of internet family, carries over 60% internet traffic, and so a studyof the peer-to-peer network performance is necessary to guarantee Quality of Services. It is a big challenge for researchers to construct a monitoring and measurement service in large-scare heterogeneous peer-to-peer network.Research on the peer-to-peer network performance mornitoring is discussed in this thesis. Now, let's introduce it in brief asfollowing:Peer-to-peer Network Measurement and Evaluation: As anapplication layer overlay network, peer-to-peer nework is different with underl (?) ng IP network. So, it's impossible functionally at0 to evalupeer-to-peer network performance with traditional IP layer metrics. Basenetwork function analyzing, new set of performance metrics for peer-to-peernetwork is proposed in this chapter, which mainly focus on describing thecharacterservice in peer-to-peer network. Finally, this thesis illustrates how toevaluate the peer-to-peer network performance and quality of service withP2P network performance metrics.System Architecture For Peer-to-Peer Network Monitoring and Measurement: In this chapter, an effective system architecture forpeer-to-peer network monitoring and measurement is proposed first, which utilize peers' resource to measure the network performance, to convergent monitor report and to compute the statistic metrics. So the cost of constructing a monitoring system could be reduced effectively, and the system capacity could be growthen with the network's expansion. Moreover, research has been done in self-organization scheme of monitoring subnet on large scale peer-to-peer network. Basing on measurement of peer resource quality, optimum peers are organized as a leveled subnet to converge monitor report. A dynamic adjustment solution is submitted to optimizing the subnet according to network environment changing.Monitoring Sub System Design for JXTA Platform:In order to prove the feasibility of constructing monitoring sub system, this chapter illustrate a detail design of monitoring sub system (named JNMS system)base on JXTA platform. Overview of JXTA protocol is given first. Then three of key technologies of JNMS system have been discussed, which include the measurement of performance metrics, the convergence of monitor report and the configurating of monitoring policy.
