In the twenty first century, informatization is the most significant feature for the human society. More and more people come to use the internet and relay on it to study and work. Currently, however, the construction of educational informatization of China is still at its preliminary-development stage. Resources of k-12 education on the internet are highly decentralized and we have no effective integration standards and means. Users can't get the needed resources conveniently and quickly.K12YP (K-12 Websites Yellow Pages) is a system that can automatically generate a directory of K-12 websites to serve for k-12 users. Through rapid collection of K-12 resources on the network and high-quality automatic classification and information extraction, K12YP generates a website directory to provide k-12 users with browsing, retrieving and other services. Basing on the analysis of a large number of K-12 websites and in-depth study of related key technologies, such as website classification and website information extraction, we design and develop a K-12 websites yellow page system in order to try to achieve a great share of k-12 network resources. The major work of this paper can be summarized as the following:(1) We present an gradual website classification methodOn the basis of combination of study of existing website classification technology and analysis of title, navigation and content of a large number of k-12 websites, we present a gradual website classification technique, namely we gradual use the title, navigation and text of a website to classify it. Results show that this method can not only effectively identify subjects of websites but also get higher rates both for accuracy and recall. At the same time, the method can improve the efficiency of the classification work.(2) We describe a meta data extraction technology which is suitable for k-12 websitesMeta-data extraction for k-12 websites contains: rule-based extraction of subject, grade, author, postcode, telephone, address and other information of websites; automatic website abstracting technique based on character library. The abstract of a website consists of navigation abstract and text abstract.(3) we design and implement a K-12 websites yellow page systemOn the basis of research of related key technologies, we design and develop a system which is called K12YP. It mainly consists of four models: resource gathering, property indexing, managing & maintaining and user serving. Through rapid collection of K-12 resources on the internet, high-quality classification and metadata extraction, K12YP displays the useful K-12 websites by category for the users to browse, search and so on.At last, we make a summarization of the work and expect for the next improvements.
