With the rising of flat panel display technology, flat panel display is gradually replacing the traditional CRT display. Inorganic EL display is an all-solid-state flat panel display with simple structure, the characteristics of inorganic EL display presents many merits such as self- luminescence, wide visual angle, high contrast, fast response, widely using temperature range, good firmness, long life time and so on. Because of the above reasons, inorganic EL display has a wide application in the Military Industrialization and some places with bad environment.This dissertation described the development of flat-panel display technology firstly, and some basic theory such as the luminescence mechanism of inorganic EL, flat panel display driver theory, the basic principles of the circuit, the display system, the gray modulation and so on. On this basis, the control circuit for an inorganic display module is designed. The control circuit is designed based on FPGA for the EL640.480-AF1 inorganic display module making by Planar Company. The display module was desgiend for computer terminal aplication.The Controller includes hardware and software. FPGA unit comprises three modules: data-processing modules, memory modules and timing module for display, using Quartusâ…ˇfor programming and simulation, and the DVI decoder chip which received the DVI singnal from the computer display card was controled by 8051 MCU. The design process of the hardware part, which includes FPGA, DVI decoder chip, the voltage transceiver and so on, includes designing hardware circuit, drawing PCB and debugging circuit.Finally, the prepared controlled in this dissertation is able to distinguish adaptively VGA, SVGA and XGA graphic formats, and achieves successfully the EL module real-time gray-scale display of those graphic formats above mentioned. The controller can also achieve color display with color EL display.
