While streaming media over the Internet is booming nowadays, it continually gives challenges to the data distribution of streaming media. The traditional C/S(Client-Server) model framework can not support large scale concurrent distribution because of the bottleneck at the server. The CDN(Content Dilivery Network) and IP multicast also can not be universalized due to the expensive finance and technological problems. The P2P(Peer to Peer) streaming media data distribution technology decreased the pressure on the backbone network. It makes the video over network more applicable.But the centralized management of live video server, and the dependence on the instable client for video on demand service can not guarantee a satisfied Qos.Designed by 8010R&D, The TDS(Transparant Downloading System), which is a P2P streaming media system with server solved the two problem effectively. And it have the function of video on demand, live video and file downloading for common files. The DOS(Digital Organism System) played as the server node in the TDS. So the TDS perfectly make use of the mass storage, dynamic schedule and high reliability characteristics of DOS. The resource and service schedule is performed automatically. In this system the DOS is the file server, database server, schedule server. And to ensure the Qos the server end of TDS is running on it also. This paper mainly researched for develop the application of video on demand and live video over the DOS, the main contents are as follows.Firstly, this thesis briefly introduced the development of the technology of streaming media data distribution, and the concepts, the protocols and the reseach fields of streaming media. After that, described a DOS system witch is the basic system of our design, the system is composed of DOS file system and DOS database system.Secondly, the function, the physical disposition, the framework and the logic of the data transport module of the sytem were specified.Thirdly, the implementation was described, including communication protocols, design of data structure, mechanism of segments, buffering management, data transportaion, mechanism of writing file for VOD and file download, disk management, mechanisms for resource management and session control.Then, the implementation of buffering management was given because it represented the ideas of data transmission and data management in the system.Finally, made a complete test for the function and performance. According to the characteristic and the implementation, the system decreased the pressure of the backbone network and provides fluncy for streaming media services.
