Recent development of technology in networks has stimulated the emergence of mass information application. The traditional storage system of Directly Attached Storage cannot fulfil the requirement. Though the storage systems of Network Attached Storage and Storage Area Network, which have changed the storage structure based on servers, solve the problems about expansibility and transmission speed of the storage system to some extent, the file server is still the bottleneck for improving the performance of the storage system.Distributed storage can improve the performance of storage system especially in extensibility. But the cost of management and maintenance is expensive. Combining distributed storage and centralized storage can take adventage of the two storage system, so that file servers manage storage system while storage nodes exchange data with network clients through network channels directly. Based on the present architecture, centralized file management and distributed date storage mass storage system(HW-MSS) connects multiple storage nodes to network respectively. This architecture seperates control and data flow to avoid file server bottleneck. The mass storage system expansion can be achieved by configuring network channels of the storage nodes in the system.Competition is very vigorous in storage market. So mass storage systems have to face the situation that some heterogeneous nodes must be added to the storge system and the storage management of mass storage system will be more complicated. The storage virtualization technology based on storage devices consolidates various heterogeneous storage resources into one transparent single logical view. This technology plays an important role in using varieties of heterogeneous resources effectively and improving data transmission performance.Different from traditional storage systems, HW-MSS presented in this dissertation has great potential in parallelity improvement due to the using of dual-channel disk arrays and the flood of user requests. The use of redundant disk array system and high scalability of system leads to the upgrade of the spatial parallelity. The pipeline implemented in data interacting in disk arrays leads to overall system performance improvement through improving the time parallelity. In mass storage system, the storage virtualization for shielding hardware differences and the parallel pipeline in improving the parallelity is two key points in impacting overall performance. This dissertation dedicates to solving the problem that how to implement the two key technologies efficiently.
