In recent years, with the development of modern weapon and flight, the radar's range, resolution and other performance claims a higher demand. Radar pulse compression as a new radar system, greatly improves the radar's range resolution, and has resolved the contradiction between action distance and range resolution.This paper contrives a LFM pulse compression work system scheme by the mission requirements according to a 500-meter short-range radar project. On this basis, the corresponding radar technical parameters are selected.LFM signal is a kind of big product of band-width and time-width by nonlinear phase modulation. It is a widely used technique in radar applications. The band-width and time-width of LFM signal could be independent chosen to obtain good distance resolution. Then the paper introduces the two pulse compression methods: time domain and frequency domain, and brief analysis the weighted.To verify accuracy of the scheme, the paper uses the basic idea of the radar system simulation. Compared with field tests, the technique of radar system simulation has many advantages, such as economical efficiency, flexibility, repeatability, inheritability and so on. Then, we utilize Simulink to design the LFM pulse compression radar system, establish and study the simulation models of all the function blocks. After some simulation testing and analysis, it has confirmed the system design's accuracy and provided feasible references to practice.
