The ship's engine room monitoring and alarm system is an important component of the ship automation. Its main function is to detect and control the running status of electromechanical devices, and carry out instruction, alarming, controlling and recording. The reliability of the system directly affects the safety of sailing ships. The original engine room monitoring and alarm system is mainly composed of the relay and semiconductor logic circuit, but now it already did not meet the request of the engine room automation development and the regulations of International Maritime Organization and various ship companies.In this paper one kind of ship's engine room monitoring and alarm system based on concentrator has been designed. It is composed of the IPC, data concentrator and acquisition module in multistep network architecture. On one hand the data concentrator completes data gathering and processing through the acquisition module. When the IPC breaks down it executes alarm and further display independently; On the other hand, the concentrator will upload the data to IPC, which will carries on the demonstration, alarm and printing.The data concentrator is designed by DSP, FPGA, FLASH and some related peripheral circuit. Four general asynchronous serial port UARTs, which are realized by FPGA, function as RS-485 interfaces between the IPC and acquisition module, and RS-232 interfaces for further display; DSP is the most important part of concentrator. It completes all functions such as communication control, data gathering, alarm output and so on. It communicates with the IPC in the interrupt mode for the reason of real-time response; The FLASH is used to store program and the monitor point parameter information.Based on the concentrator's hardware design, this paper has completed the design and debug of FPGA program and DSP program. The data acquisition subprograms are mainly based on Taiwan ICP/DAS I-7000 series I/O module.The engine room monitoring and alarm system based on concentrator designed in this paper goes through the actual ship test and basically meets the requirements of actual operation.
