HMIS is designed to build a software platform which can comprehensively manage the people flow, material flow and finance flow of a hospital and its sub departments by building a corresponding server on the computer network platform with C/S or B/S model. Its major activities include collecting, storing, processing, extracting, transmitting, summarizing and turning the data produced in various stages of medical activities into various useful information, so hospital efficiency, service quality and management level can be improved. As a major subsystem of HMIS, Inpatient Management Information System takes dealing with business of hospitalization, hospital discharge and inpatients expenses as its core function. At the same time, it offers inpatients timely, accurate and complete data of medical statistics and profit check and statistics and becomes an indispensable management tool for the hospitalization management and charge of patients. The data model of this system is abstracted from the summarization of typical businesses of the hospitalization part of a dozen of small and medium-sized hospitals in the south of Sichuan. With the C/S model of the system architecture, the author has completed the design of hospitalization module of this system by using the top-down integrated design and the bottom-up system development method. This subsystem can be well integrated with other two subsystems (outpatient service management, pharmaceutical management) into a whole. In seven chapters, this paper explains in detail the purpose, process and expected result of the subsystem development through the analysis of business flow and the design of modules, E-R diagrams, databases, codes and human-computer interface of the system.
