Home Gateway Based On The Osgi Middleware Standard Applications

Information appliances, along with the expansion of Internet in our life, have entered numerous houses and society as well. Meanwhile, more and more diversified network technologies are employed in our home, and people put forward different demands for interconnection among different devices and networks. However, devices under the same roof are, in most cases, not provided by one manufacturer and thus cannot share the information, which makes it difficult to build home network. Therefore, it's inevitable to integrate versatile network technologies in home network.This paper firstly introduces the concept of home network and its development around the world, and points out that Home Gateway is the key device in home network which is discussed with its definition, function and type. Secondly several middlewares of Home Gateway are compared, which leads to this paper proposes that OSGi is the ideal technology to make home network available in current situation. We also analyse whether the basic equipment of our gateway can work or not in theory and in practice.The OSGi structure is described, and the function of sever gateway of OSGi is studied in detail. We can acknowledge that how gateway manages one single bundle. Actually, this paper emphasizes on the research of distance monitor system of infor- mation appliances, and propose a solution for it. Well, a communication protocol used is designed in home network. Finally, there is an example which tells that our gateway is approachable.This system makes the intelligent home network more approachable and provides a solid base for home information networks based on OSGi to become the national standard of information home appliances.
