Software Radio is a promising novel concept and system to realize mobile communications. The core technology is to put the A /D and D/A converter as closely as possible to the antenna, the radio function is defined as software, and the hardware is treated as the basic platform in software radio. Thus, the mobile communication can gain good performance in generality and flexibility. It is very convenient for inter-system connection and upgrade. It is possible that the software radio becomes the third breach of wireless communication after the realization from analog to digital.Generally, the software radio system is including 3 parts: the radio frequency processing, the intermediate frequency processing, base band processing and the control management and supportive part. The radio frequency processing part comprises the analog parts. The intermediate frequency (base band) processing part is in charge of the digital signal processing. The control management and supportive part performs the operation and maintenance, the improvement of the quality of service and the development of the new service. At present, as restricted by the current IC technology, the main work of the software radio is intermediate frequency and base band digital signal processing.In this paper, several key problems and basic theories in the field of Software Radio focused on digital intermediate frequency technology are studied and discussed .In this paper, an intermediate frequency digital processing platform built on CPCI is designed and realized, a digital down converter and orthogonal FM demodulation are realized on this platform which validate its correctness. At last, the thesis is summarized and the future possible research is discussed. Some major results of this paper are outlined:1. An intermediate frequency digital processing platform is implemented, which can load many programs. The platform is scalable, flexible and reliable;2. A programmable digital down converter based on the platform is realized;3. A program of orthogonal FM demodulation is realized.It will not only provide some practical theories and techniques, but also has practical values for us to analyze and design software radio system.
