Release 5 finally introduced the IMS as part of 3GPP standards. The IMS uses SIP protocol and makes it possible to establish peer-to-peer IP communications with all types access device. NGN will uses IMS as its architecture. IMS leads the telecommunication to a new era, and makes it possible to communicate among fixed networks, mobile networks and Internet. IMS provides a solution for SPs(Service Provider) to deploy various multimedia services. SIP is a protocol which addresses functionalities that are necessary for complete service delivery (e.g, no-related with access, roaming, centralized management of user data, security, reliability, high efficiency). All in all, the IMS will form the heart of the IP core network, and enriches the services in NGN for the SPs.Virtualization is derived from large computer. To use the hardware at its limit, virtualization makes it possible to run multi OSs on one large computer. During the 40 years, people have made large development on virtualizaion. Specially, when the small computer adopts virtualizaion, the virtualiztion becomes more and more popuplar. For the X86 servers speed up and become more and more popular, Intel provides virtualization in X86 cpu. With virtualization, people can reduce the hardware cost, manage hardware more easily, enhance the reliability and useless and improve the efficient. This article analyses the IMS architecture, SIP applications and virtualization, and designs an IMS system based virtualization. There are 4 function entitys, each one runs on a virtual OS. All the OSs implement on the same hardware. There is a new application server called SCIM(Service Capability Interaction Management) in the IMS system, which can merge various application services without modification. The SCIM application server provides more services combination and reduces the time of service deployment. The article validates the possibility of the IMS based on virtualiztion.
