The laser radar is a new and high technology of developing rapidly, it have extensive uses in the military department, have received the great concerns of the military departments of various countries. International guided missile technology controlling law points out clearly: "The laser radar system uses laser for return waves echo finding range, orientation, and reflect the characteristic and discern the goal through the position, speed of radial and object, have reflected special transmission, scanning, receiving and signal treatment technology ", and regard the laser radar as one of the military technology exercised restraint in spreading.The laser radar has two different kinds: laser imaging radar and laser ranging radar. Though two kinds of radar systems are different, but if can design the interchangeable laser radar signal processor of a set of comparison ,it can make the development of the new-type laser radar system concentrate on some of optics part and control mainly. It is unnecessary to carry on the repeated work on dealing with the circuit in the signal.According to the requirement of high-speed signal processing in radar, image processing, communication etc, designers are seeking new implementing methods of digital signal processing to meet these requirements. In digital signal processing area, DSP processor,ASIC and FPGA are in common use. FPGA has some advantages: high-speed, perfect for parallel and pipelining processing, ability of reconfiguration. Because of these advantages, FPGA are widely used by many signal processing fields.A high-performance design of radar echo processing system with dual FPGA + DSP based on PCI bus is designed. The FPGA chips XC2VP20-5FG676 controls the sampling and performs the pre-processing, while the digital signal processors TMS320C6416T act as the high speed processing module, PCI9054 chip interfacing with the 32 bit PCI bus. It is a standardized hardware platform in common use dealing with for radar signal processing. This method has fully combined different advantages of devices and has more advantages in processing speed, interface and programming.
