The prosperity of global marine industry and a sharp increase in ports throughput are promoted by the recovery of global economy and a consistent and rapid development of China's economy. Following this trend, the ports in China are stepping into a new round of construction currently. The construction is ascendant in coastal ports, where such as Dalian, Tianjin, Tsingdao, Shanghai, Guangzhou, etc. have all invested greatly in building large terminals for container, mineral and crude oil. And all of them express the call to be one of the regional and even international ship centers. It is anticipated that, after this round of construction, the competition among the coastal ports and that between the ports and those of neighboring regions and countries should be more severe in a few of years. It will bring a baptism to Ningbo port, old in history but young in development.As the competition becomes more and more severe, there is little difference with services provided by the ports. One who can hold the requirement of customers better, contact more closely, acquire more customers, will win the market. The resource of development of enterprise is to gain the customers who are high-valued, satisfying, and real profits bringer. The value chain connected with customers has been a core of competition in ports. How to stay on top of the competition and improve the advantages in competition for Ningbo Port is a question we need to think thoroughly.To solve the question, Nlingbo Port is trying to build up a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) project to promote the future of the enterprise. Through the project, the management and service of the enterprise will be improved. One side, the demands of existing customers will be greatly met; in the other hand, potential customers will be attracted, so that the enterprise will gain more market shares, incomes and profits. In the writer's opinion, a CRM system is a combination of management and technology. It analyzes in the article that the necessity and aims of implementation of CRM project, and researches how to realize the technical requirement of CRM system. As well, in the article, according to the research and development conditions inboard and outboard, the main modules of CRM system designed for NPA are described, considering the requirement of Ningbo Port.
