This dissertation summarized the design and development on real-time visual system of drilling simulator, and analyzed the key technologies on development process. First, it construed the bright future of drilling simulator that had been used as new-generated virtual training system on petroleum engineering. Then it gave the development environment, described the design program and implementation strategy, and also explained the related technologies and options. Finally, it summed up the full text, and put forward the next prospect.As the most important component of drilling simulator, the real-time visual system reproduces the drilling scene. It improves extremely the quality of visual simulation by adopting advanced three-dimensional modeling technology, visual simulating technology and visual reality technology.The design for real-time visual system of drilling simulator is based on object-oriented. All of the equipments can be handled as objects. Though this method, it can efficiently reorganize the scene structure, and easily perform different operations on the scene with the demand; Analyze the modeling methods including geometric modeling, kinematic modeling, physical modeling, object behavior etc that are used on the development of this system and giving the way to control the movement of all the objects by OpenGL. It shows the movement model of particle system that is used to simulating the microscopic model like fire, bubble and mud; Introduce GPU technology and its advantages. Complete the lighting controls for computer cinematography in real-time visual system of drilling simulator by this technology and comparative analyzed the different simulation results of programmable pipeline and fixed pipeline.According to the development of drilling simulator, it raises some advice to perfect the real-time visual system, which could accord with training demands and satisfy the requirements of society.
