On the base of Object-Oriented Paradigm, the method of Object-Oriented FEM (Finite Element Method) is described by this paper. Firstly, the course of development of .Object-Oriented FEM and its merits are depicted by the paper and,in turn, its feasibility of Object-Oriented FEM is demonstrated. Secondly, finite element program for plane and spatial frame structures are designed. Many classes in FEM and the relevant member functions are also defined. Derrick is an important structure of petroleum drilling machinery, and its carrying capacity is very important for the implement of drilling process. Not only is the structure of derrick complicated, but it endures complicated loads in the course of work. In order to ensure derrick works safely and effectively,it is necessary to evaluate its carrying capacity. Analyzed with the developed software, the stress and deformation distributions of F320 derrick and J250/42-K derrick under several working conditions are obtained. The results obtained here are consistent with that obtained with SuperSap93,which illustrates the program is correct and practicable. Finally a FEM pre-processor and post processor is developed. The FEM pre-processor is integrated with the FEM software using database technology. The FEM post processor is integrated with the FEM software using Opengl technology.
