Virtual Reality Technology is a integrate technology involving in much new technology such as computer technology .measure technology and micro-electronics. With the application of virtual reality, the way of analysing multi-project data ,espiecally in much abstract data,is improved;And ,with it's application in lot of fields , it can bring great benefits.Applying virtual reality technology to machenical design, we can experience the appearance and capability of the product,thus reduce the period of product design,and decrease the cost of product creation. So , the machenical product design based on virtual reality must have wide future.Three-modeling is the base and essential technology in virtual reality. As the most popular three dimensional interface at current time, OpenGL has powerful three-modeling construct function, and it has become the industrial standards of the three graphics , while OpenGL only support rock-bottom function. It is difficult to construct model with it. As three-dimensional design software, Pro/Engineer has powerful function and it is very simple to use it. If we can realize the interface between OpenGL and Pro/Engineer , we can freely realize virtual reality.In this paper's research, first ,we realize the interface between Pro/Engineer and OpenGL indirectly . We realize the interface of OpenGL and 3DS directly with the object oritented language C++, we can show three-demisional models what are created by 3DSMax or transformed form other CAD models. We use object-oriented technology to give layer to the model.As there are many parts in crane, we need not to create every part of the same kind of model. We standardize and serialize these parts.This paper first uses Pro/Engineer and OpenGL as tools to research into virtual reality and gain some achievement, but it is not perfect. We can comfirm that using OpenGL as tools to research virtual reality has much flexibility and developable space. With our further research , this system will become more and more perfect, and will bring our enterprise great benefit.
