Group technology (GT) is an efficient path for solving the production pattern of the diversified products and small order. The core of the CIMS lies on establishing a set of group encoding system. During working out the group encoding system, the characteristics of application system and integration requirements for CAD, CAPP, PDM, ERP, automatic encode and so on should be considered, in addition to the figures of the parts and components.Firstly, this article briefly introduces the principle of the group encoding. The so-called group encoding technology, which adopt the classification principle, assort the objects with similar figures into one group, and supply a standard or unified the methods of resolution.Secondly, the article sets forth the encoding principle of GT system of NGC-CIMS, the currently group encoding system adopt the 0-0 module which surround an object to organize the system to think the problem. The article introduces the application process of group encoding, analyses the present situation of the application, and points out the main problems in the GT system: no way to fulfillment the automatic encode, too large for the number of bits.On the basis of researching the present product structure of the company, and drawing the lessons from domestic and overseas fellow traders who have rich success experience in exerting the GT encode, so the following feasible methods have been brought forward to GT system of NGC-CIMS: 1) Fulfill the part automatic encode through customizing the module; 2) Shorten the number of bits through analyzing product structure. 3) Advance the progress of the enterprise standardization. 4) Increase the encoding journal number.Finally, The paper draws a conclusion: GT is an improving and increasing technology, there still need further research in the aspects of module customization, automatic encode, PDM effective integration and so on.
