This thesis gives a design method of a new intelligent measurement and controlling device to solve the traditional engineering problem during the electric cable producing. It can measure the cable's diameter in time, and keep the cable's diameter in a predefined range.The method applies the DSP microprocessor, and uses the technology of Linear CCD Image Sensors. The thesis analyses the theory of the cable's diameter measurement, and the control algothrith. It also analyses the result by integrating the DSP system in the design method of hardware circuit and software design.The author incorporates a system design, which is the basic design and software development of the hardware electric circuit. The hardware design includes CCD's driving circuit, analog signal acquisition, as well as the DSP system, and the controlling circuit.The software design mainly includes the VHDL language programming, which produces four driving time signals for the CCD array; The VHDL language programming realizes the keyboard interface function; the system detecting and controlling function ;The PID algorithm is realized by using the C language; The liquid crystal display utilizes software design to realize and so on.At the end, the thesis summarized the completed works, and gives the method of further improvements.
