With the progress of computer and micro-electronics technology, the technology of video application has been advanced a lot. This dissertation discusses the design and the optimization of a video software system, which is based on a DSP platform. It includes mainly video codec, video input and output design. The video system supports good error concealment and recovery, and has multi-window display function.Chapter 1 presents video related technology, background, international video coding standard and wireless protocol.Chapter 2 introduces the peripheral, core architecture, memory architecture and IDDE of ADSP-BF561.Chapter 3 describes the whole system design, including hardware and software framework design.Chapter 4 discusses the video codec software design on DSP platform. It describes the encoding and decoding design in detail and gives some example of optimization. The design project is the realization of H.263+ and MPEG-4 video coding standard. It also adds error concern module in video coding which deals with packet or frame missing errors, and improves image display by adopting preprocessing and post processing design.Chapter 5 discusses the video input and output design, which support PAL/NTSC pattern and eight display mode.Chapter 6 introduces communication between dual cores of DSP, and system debugging.Chapter 7 concludes the research of this dissertation and proposes future development possibilities.
