Nowadays, embedded system and wireless sensor network (WSN) attract much more attention in electronic industry. The progress of electrical technology makes WSN possible; therefore, to use embedded technology in this kind of product as well as an excellent geometric user interface (GUI) in the terminal receivers is a popular trend, which is considered to be a promising foreground. The author puts forward a project concerning WSN node's universal platform based on the arm embedded system in this paper. Design and implement of this project is based on the S3C44BOX chip which is produced by Samsung Co. This project includes two kind of node: One is the common node for the collecting and anglicizing the signals, the other is the portable terminal node for the receiving and dealing the data coming from the common node. There are no significant differences between these two platforms; however, the key differences lie on some hardware interfaces and software design. The control mode of the former platform, which does not use operation system, is similar to that of single-chip computer. For the latter, it takes uCLinux as the operation system, arm-elf-gcc as the tool of cross compiling, and MiniGUI as the GUI developing tool. Besides this, some research of software design and hardware driver has been achieved on this board. This paper analyses the technical background, present situation of the embedded system and WSN. It supplies hardware/software solutions for a low cost node platform, whose technology mainly involves uCLinux, MiniGUI, IAL, software designing, target location arithmetic and research of hardware interfaces. The whole design and analysis based on Linux and the results turned out that the design meets the requirements of the system.
