Due to its advantages, such as high efficiency, compactness, steadiness, long lifetime and all solid state construction, laser diode pumped all solid state laser (DPSSL) has become a developing focus of novel solid state lasers and has wide applications in material processing, military, medical therapeutics, and basic research, etc.Based on the model of four-level system and with the rate equations, the space distribution of laser beam and pump beam under end pumped was studied. Then the second harmonic generation (SHG) theory especially frequency doubling and phase matching theory were introduced briefly and the e-o q-switched technique was discussed and researched.Explained why chosen end pumped mode for pumping, Nd:YAG for laser crystal and KTP for frequency doubling. Grounding on the purpose of industrialization and miniaturization of laser, based on the thought of astigmatism compensation and thermal stability of the cavity, invented a high frequency e-o q-switched all solid state green laser. Using cw LD to pump Nd:YAG, when the input power was 17W and the frequency of KD*P e-o q-switched was 1KHz, we gained fundamental radiation at 1064nm, which average output power was 0.278W, single pulse power was 0.28mJ, pulse width was 16ns,and peak power was 1.7×10~7W. Using intracavity SHG of KTP crystal, when the input power was 17W and the frequency of KD*P e-o q-switched was 1KHz, we obtained green radiation at 532nm, which average output power was 45mW, single pulse power was 45μJ , and pulse width was 16ns.
