Laser diode side-pumped and electro-optic Q-switched Nd:YAG laser has many advantages of high repetition rates, high peak power and narrow pulse width. which is a very important research trend in laser technology and has extremely broad application prospects, such as military and national defense, industry processing, medical health care and the scientific research, and so on.In this thesis, based on the investigation on the research situation, development trend, research achievement and the application fields of laser diode side-pumped and electro-optic Q-switched Nd:YAG all-solid-state laser in the domestic and foreign countries, the significance of this thesis is expounded, and the design scheme is presented and completed.The main achievements in this thesis are shown as follows:Firstly, the operating characteristics of laser diode side-pumped Nd:YAG all-solid-state laser and the thermal lens effect of laser medium are studied and the thermal lens focus formula is achieved. The light field distributing model in the laser medium is established. The resonant cavity is designed and the logical parmeter of the resonant cavity is presented.Secondly, based on the electro-optic Q-switched rate equation, the relation between the peak power, FWHM and inverse population are studied; the optimal theory of the electro-optic Q-switched laser is presented; therefore the output characteristics of the laser, energy extract efficiency and the optimal reflectivity of the output coupler are calculated and simulated.Finally, through the research on the side-pumped coupling system and the electro-optic Q-switched device, the laser diode side-pumped and electro-optic Q-switched laser is designed and the experimental research have been implemented. The static output is obtained which is solid foundation of realizing output of high repetition rates, high peak power and narrow pulse width as well as its double frequency green laser.
