Traditional image acquisition systems have the characteristics of slow acquisition rate, simple function, big size and high power consumption. These characteristics do not satisfy the the needs of many modern machine vision applications, such as embedded industrial vision system, distributed vision network, intelligent vision guard, autonomous machine, etc. This paper presents a high performance digital image acquisition system based on the TI TMS320DM642 DSP processor and high performance CMOS Image sensor. By exploring the features of DSP processor and the CMOS image sensor, the system achieves the goal of high acquisition rate, full function integration, and flexible interface. The developed sytem can be applied in image detection, image compression, remote monitoring, video conferencing, road traffic management and other video / image processing and transmission applications.This paper introduces the design and implementation of the digital image acquisition system in detail and comprehensively. The introduction is organized into three parts: the first analysis and shows the image processing algorithms used in this system, then discuss the hardware structure and the module of principle, finally, discuss the system software architecture, application layer software and image processing and compression algorithms.
