Animation is an art of space time, it is also a kind of hyper- suppositional illusion art. M.C.Escher was an excellent and peculiar artist, in his artworks, the relativity of space time, the amalgamation of different kind of space time, artistic space metamorphose with the development of perspective, and the metamorphose based on regular-plane-division were significantly demonstrated. Although Animation and Print art are two different kinds of arts, the suppositional, hallucinatory, anamorphic specialities , the way they demonstrate space time have much in common. The thesis analyzed the characteristics of Animation space time and Escher's standpoint of space time. I put much efforts on analyzing how Escher demonstrate the relativity of space time, the amalgamation and development of different kind of space time; also I demonstrated how I make one of Escher's print <> animated; followed this practice I developed my understanding of Animation art, I came to a conclusion that the essential characteristic of animation is transformation. Animation is not only the art to make still objects animated, but also an art which can freely transform with different forms, different space time, different feelings. From another angle, Transformation is the most powerful montage technique of animation films. At present, study of Escher is relatively rare in China. There are some"Escherians"worldwide, however, the study based on animation is even rare. My main purpose of the thesis is to make a small contribution to animation theories.
