Software has played a central role in today's development of projects, and some system itself is a software system. Software systems are large and complex in some important fields, and they have a very high demand in reliability and security. Software reliability evaluation is an important way to ensure and improve the quality of software; moreover, it is an important branch of computer engineering. From the software reliability evaluation, we can get the parameters of software reliability and ascertain software quality, and then we can build confidence for the users. As a way to improve the quality and reliability of software, software reliability research is of great significance both in theory and practice.This thesis focuses on software failure data and software reliability evaluation. We will discuss the ways of software reliability trend analysis, and we will discuss how to select reliability model based on software reliability trend analysis, then we research how to evaluate reliability quality.This thesis is composed of two parts. Part 1 is divided into three chapters--Chapter 1, 2 and 3. Chapter 1 mainly introduces the background and the content of software reliability study, and then takes a brief introduction to the methods of software reliability evaluation. Chapter 2 introduces the basic concepts and principles of software reliability evaluation and the parameters of reliability model. Chapter 3 focuses on reliability model and the general process of reliability modeling. Part 2 is also divided into three chapters-- Chapter 4, 5 and 6, which is the most important part of this thesis. In chapter 4, we research the precise definitions of failure data and the principles of data collection firstly. Secondly, we research the ways of software reliability trend analysis and the technology of model evaluating. At last, this chapter discusses how to improve software quality. Chapter 5 designs a tool of software reliability analyzing. The last chapter sums up the results and the characteristic of this thesis, and states the shortage and the contents that will be studied in the near future.
