The IC design methodologies and the IC manufacture technologies are ever evolving in the past several years, as one of the most significant results, the SoC has made great innovations in recent years, and now it has become one of the most popular solutions in the information technology areas. As one of the most prominent micro-processors, ARM offers predominant applications, and it is very convient to implement the portable interfaces in the ARM embedded systems, so that various portable applications can be added to the systems, PC Card interface is one the candidates. This thesis is originated from the PCMCIA Host IP core project. The IP core has implemented the transformation between the AHB interface and the PC Card interface, so that various PC Cards can be added to the system to expand the functions of the ARM based systems. The IP core is developed in the process conforming to the sophisticated methodology and guidelines, and has experienced the tough functional verification, during which the acceptable code coverage metrics have been achieved. The FPGA platform prototype has also been developed with the ARM soft core, so does the corresponding driver program in the ARM based Linux environment. In this thesis, a brief survey of the SoC applications, and several related key technologies is introdued, followed by the introduction to AMBA and PC Card Standard which is the origin of the IP core. After that the specification and the architechture of the IP core is described briefly, and in particular, the design of the control registers of the IP core is described in detail, listing the descriptions of each sub-module as detail as possible. And most important, the verification of the IP core, especially those related to the control registers are discussed in the form of testcases, following the code coverage metrics in both the line coverage and condition coverage, finally the FPGA prototype is described, so does the software environment.
