A Ka-band T / R Module Design And Realization

T/R modules are widely used in either military or civil millimeter wave radars and sorts of communication system applications. A T/R module system is designed, implemented and tested after investigating the theory of ka band millimeter wave T/R module.In this paper, we first talked about the characteristic and applications of the millimeter wave, and the research background of millimeter wave T/R modules. Then the system topology and the design method are determined associated with the realistic condition. The basic theory of the propagation media such as microstrip, waveguide is stated.The waveguide to microstrip transitions are designed to deal with the problem that the input and output RF port is designated to be the rectangular waveguide BJ320. According to the different specification required for the transmitting and receiving channel, different devices are selected, different kinds of filters are designed; in the local oscillator chain, a frequency multiplier, a filter, a amplifier and a power divider are realized; on the intermediate frequency port, a low pass filter is designed, and a IF amplifier is implemented for the receiving channel. The theory and the design process of the above devices are introduced in chapter 3 and chapter 4 of this article. Both simulation and experimental results are shown. Some specific problems are also analyzed.A millimeter wave T/R module is constructed based on this. A smaller space for the whole module is resulted by reasonably arranging the structure of the devices. The testing results almost meet the predicted requirements, giving a reference for the next step work to produce miniaturized high quality T/R modules.
