Process control is an important course of automation of university. After learning the theories in the classroom, the students need to understand and digest and to innovate. It is very important to establish a test platform of process control.Combining with automation theories and automation projects, a compact process control experimental platform is designed. The item belongs to "Network-based Complex System Control Lab" of Northwestern Polytechnical University. The platform is mainly for the purpose in researching on subject physical experimental, the key roles are flows and level control. It can not only serve as multi-order single input single output subjects, but also serve as multiple inputs and multiple outputs and variable parameter subjects, not only normal control algorithms but also some advanced and new control algorithms can be researched and verifyed on the test platform.Firstly, currently process control education in engineering college and the recent status of process control are Recalled, the feasibility and necessity of establishing process control platform is analyzed. And the basic process control theories are introduced. Then, in view of zhe monotonicity of offtheshelf test platform, the function complete, construct flexible, and various demands contented test platform is designed. The hardware equipments are selected, purchased and installated, and according the platform hardware's characteristic, some tests are designed. And according the platform hardware's characteristic, the software platform is designed. The data collection, algorithm realization, output control's data of experimental platform is realized by personal computer. Using KINGVIEW to realize monitor interfaces. Using matlab to do the algorithm programming for KINGVIEW is not good at arithmetic. The Visual Basic program is edited as a dynamic data exchange interface between KINGVIEW and external program. Experiments prove the platform meet expected standard and research demand of college. Finally, The models of system are theoretically created, and characteristics is analyzed, normal PID control algorithm and self-adaptational control algorithm are realized on the platform.In a word, this test platform has been formed to satisfy laboratory education and provide a plane for study of advaced control theories. In doing so, the process control experimental aboratory is enriched.
