Today, as the high development of automatization of industry, moving objects can be measured and controlled by using sensor-assembled system. These technologies are used more and more in industry and research area. Among them, the sensor technology of magnetoresistivity has progressed at rapid rate in the last ten years due to its low cost and accuracy. Using the magnetic field as medium, the magnetoresistive sensor captures the information of the target object such as the location, angle, pose. Contactless way of sense effectively avoid the wear and tear caused by the relative displacement of the system and the moving object, which can offer a longtime use. That's why this technology has achieved a highly improvement in recent years.Accompany with the development of digital technology and the integrate circuit technology, sensors are designed towards micromation and intelligence. Hence the concept of sensor is extended from a single transducer to a system which is able to collect, process, store and transmit. This paper accomplishs a new-style shift sensor which integrates a magnetic-to-electric transducer and a micro process unit(MPU). The sensors can adjust by software to its best working state.Firstly, the background of the thesis and status of the shift measurement are explained. Secondly, the measuring principle of the magnetoresistive shift sensor are introduced. Thirdly the architecture an hard ware design of the shift sensor are recommended. Then software design are illuminated. Finally the measure result are analyzed and a error compensation idea is presented in this paper.The sensor accomplished by the writer can measure a shift range from 0 to 85 mm. It has a precision of 0.2 mm. The results are displayed on LCD. It also has a standard serial interface in order to download program and supervise the running program.
