Ontology has the good ability of data sharing and reusing, so research on ontology is becoming a popular area in computer science domain. In the process of ontology research and application, we always meet the problems of ontology change and evolution. The world is dynamic and changes over time, so as the description of the world the ontologies change and evolve as well. So many different versions of the same ontology are created according to different time and environment. This will cause serious incompatible problem between the data resource and the changed version, and between different versions. To solve the problem above, the correspondences between different versions is required. Ontology versioning can create mappings between similar elements of different versions, which satisfy the requirement. All the existing ontology versioning approaches are single-directional, which only support mappings in one direction. The process of data sharing and reusing is a bi-directional process, which requires the bi-directional correspondences between ontology versions. When the single-directional ontology versioning approaches are used for bi-directional data sharing and reusing, it requires to create two inverse single-directional mappings. These two mapping processes are sepetated from each other, so a lot of work are repeated and this is time-consunmed and effort-consumed. Even more, some correspondences between two mapping processes could be ignored, which may cause some errors. In this thesis, a new type of ontology versioning: Bi-directional Ontology Versioning BOV is presented. With BOV, we can build bi-directional correspondences between similar elements of different ontology versions. BOV not only indicates the mapping elements, but also describes the relationship between mapping elements and the bi-directional transformation between them. There are four components of BOV: mapping elements, bi-directional mapping...
