Transient performance evaluation of high-speed packet-switched networks is one important issue in the field of high-speed information networks. In the current literature, the performance analysis and QoS(Quality of Service) guarantee techniques of high-speed packet-switched networks usually depend on the assumptions of steady state and Markovian models, but some of important characteristics in real-world networks, such as the LRD behavior of Video traffic, which can not be described by Markov models, and finite connection durations that result in the impossibility to reach steady state, are often ignored. To take into account of these characteristics, it is necessary to construct new model, use novel analysis method, build corresponding frame of QoS parameters, and then design the algorithm of QoS guarantee. As are the objects of the research projects I have participated. This paper mainly introduces the related aspects of the research projects and the corresponding work. These include network traffic models and analysis models used in transient performance evaluation of networks, algorithms of QoS guarantee, numerical computation, and simulation experiments, etc. In addition, this paper also gives an integrated overview of the related literature.
