In the new generation of ultra speed fiber communication systems, the wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) system has become the subject of numerous studies for its reconfiguration, transparency and compatibility. The development of WDM technology calls for new demands for optical devices, which accelerates the emergence of various novel passive and active optical fiber components. As the key technology in WDM system, erbium-doped fiber lasers and amplifiers have acquired more attentions for their inherent advantages. Multi-wavelength erbium-doped fiber lasers and cladding pumped erbium-ytterbium co-doped fiber lasers are the main research subjects in this paper, and the main content is listed as below:1. Experimental study on multi-wavelength erbium-doped fiber lasers:1) The property of dual-wavelength switchable erbium-doped fiber laser is experimentally studied. By utilizing birefringence fiber Bragg grating as the wavelength selective component and different settings of the polarization controller, stable dual-wavelength laser output is obtained at room temperature. The wavelength spacing between adjacent lasers is 0.52nm, and the laser amplitude variations are both less than 0.2dB.2) We have experimentally studied the property of multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser based on Moire gratings. The Moire gratings are fabricated by utilizing the phase mask and ultra violet exposure technique. The two gratings have four and six transmission valleys, respectively. By using these gratings as wavelength-selective components and output coupler in a linear cavity erbium-doped fiber laser, four and six output lasers are obtained. The minimum wavelength spacing is 0.5nm.2.
