With the fast development of IT industries, various kinds of digital technologies are applied in all aspects of our daily life. We are now standing at the crossroad to an information era. As a powerful tool specialized in dealing with visual information, digital image processing technique is now merging with other disciplines of science and technology, being rapidly advancing, while facilitating the progress of others.Medical image processing, being a vital division of digital image processing techniques, have greatly improved the efficiency of medical care. The low contrast structure can be found in almost all kinds of digitalized medical images such as CT, MR and digital mammography. To improve the contrast of the image from its origin often means longer inspection time and larger radiation dose, and this may cost the patient more money or bring about more risk of overdosed radiation. Obviously it is a meaningful job to research how to enhance the medical image by means of post-processing. The low contrast structures in images are resulted from bad distributions of image pels in their intensity. As for grayscale images, the contrast is measured locally between pel intensities on both sides of edges, which are related to the gradients of these edges under multi-scale framework. Heuristically, if the gradients of edges can be somehow stretched, the local contrast can be accordingly enhanced.In this paper, I implemente a medical image post-processing system based on a contrast enhancement algorithm using multi-scale edge presentation of images and polynomial interpolations.
