In this paper, real-time joint transform correlator is used for optical correlation detection. The location of target could be detected according to correlation peaks outputted. In terms of this point, we know that the energy of correlation peaks directly influence accuracy of recognizing.Wavelet transform is adopted to preprocess image in real-time and extracted edges to solve the problem mentioned above. In the course of processing, spline wavelet transform was used; its character of multi-scale was exploited adequately, and combined with the method of threshold segmentation which belongs to image segmentation technology. As a result, the interesting edges which kept useful feature information are extracted.The result of computer simulate experiment and optical experiment also prove that the method of edge extraction mentioned in this paper has remarkable outputs when it was applied to different kinds of images such as target in clutter background and infrared target. In a word, ideal experimental results are obtained.
