Web-based Campus Data Center Management Study

With the development of building of digital campus, campus data centers are built by many schools. Building campus data center can integrate resources, reduce duplicate investment in operating environment and maintenance workers, integrate operating platform to implement effective security protection and management, integrate data to improve the information sharing among application systems, facilitate the information life cycle management and data mining. Campus data center is the core of digital campus. Many critical applications such as Office automation system, financial management system, campus card system, elearning system are allocated in campus data center. Campus data center can also has hundreds of various brand and model servers. With CERNET2 putting into practice, campus data center has been a complex IT environment that has many software and hardware heterogeneous systems and that is the blend of IPv4 and IPv6. Advanced management theory, perfect management institution and appropriate management tools are necessary for the reliable and steady running of software and hardware systems.This paper researches the current IT management technology and management tools to effectively manage campus data center. In this paper, computer network management theory and ITIL services management optimal practical theory are integrated. Referring to the layer thought of OSI, this paper presents a layer management model for campus data center. In this model, IT resources of campus data center are classified six layers which are environment system, network system, computer system, database system, middleware and application system. Managements of the six layers are optional failure management, configuration management, performance management, safe management, modification management, problem management, issue management, service quality management, cost management, capacity management, availability management, durative management.
