As the video takes an important position in the multi-media communication, it has been a work with practical significance to realize the decoding function which supports the newest video coding standard. For this purpose we made an attempt to realize the decoder which supports the domestic video coding standard on the OMAP platform as the main content of this thesis. AVS-M is the seventh part of the second generation source coding standard AVS, and the independent intellectual property of which belongs to our country. This standard was mainly established for the mobile video communication field. Its coding performance has achieved the international advanced level, while the computational complexity is much lower. With its loose structure and non-optimized code, the now available reference software of AVS-M is just for test and study purpose and not suitable for practical project. This prevents the AVS-M standard from using and spreading seriously.Based on the analyzing and testing about AVS-M standard, this thesis mainly explores a decoding program adaptable to the general platform which can be transplanted to the hardware platform, and thus it makes the AVS-M decoder available on the open multimedia applying platform (OMAP) of TI Company. The OMAP5910 used here is a kind of dual core processor with two cores of ARM9 and DSP of C55x. It synthesized well the controlling ability of ARM as well as low power loss and computing ability of DSP. Many more complicated services which cannot be achieved by sole DSP now can be accomplished.This thesis mainly includes the following parts:The author introduces the related information of the video coding, as well as retraces the developing course of coding standard briefly. For the AVS-M is a new standard, the thesis gives a detailed introduction of its technical performance characteristics, and makes a compared analysis with the H.264 baseline profile, thus compares the coding function of the two standards through the experimental tests.
