With the development of information technology, there is a growing demand for mobile multimedia communication. In order to store and transmit video data efficiently, it is necessary to develop techniques for compressing these video data. With high compressing efficiency, the second generation compressing standards including H.264, AVS and VC-1 become the research focus nowadays. However, complexity of the AVS1-P7 codec, the mobile video part of the AVS, is several times higher than that of existing standards. So it is difficult to implement multimedia application based on AVS1-P7 for handled devices due to limited hardware resource and great complexity. This thesis describes the implementation of AVS1-P7 video decoding on TI OMAP (Open Multimedia Applications Platform). In this thesis, the key arithmetic and complexity of AVS1-P7 decoder is analyzed first. Optimization methods in inverse transform, motion compensation and other parts of decoder are proposed, also including the code realization. Then, discussion about designing software on OMAP is provided together with the features of OMAP. OMAP5912 consists of an ARM9 core and a TI C55x DSP. To utilize OMAP dual-core architecture efficiently, the program on ARM is designed to provide a user interface and control DSP, and the decoding job is performed on DSP. At last, Simulation results are showed and discussed. Also we have a prospect of industrialization of AVS 1-P7.
