Following the application and development of multiplier device and circuit, the research of mulitplier theory is increasing. Today frequency multiplying technology has reached a new level. On the basis of the introduction of basic microwave multiplier theory, this paper further analyizes the nonlinear characteristics of the frequency multipliers, especially the basic multiplying mechanism of Schottky diode multiplier and active FET multiplier, whose designing and realizing methods are presented, respectively. Finally, systemic conclusions of the performance of passive and active freqency multipliers are done through the practical multiplier circuits which researched in this paperThe main work of the paper include following parts. Firstly, the basic thory of multipliers is introduced. Secondly, the multiplier circuit configuration is established with the designing thought of multiplier. Thirdly, simulation and optimization of the detail practice multiplier circuits are operationed by using of Hamonic Balance analysis (HB) method in software ADS. Fourthly, passive quintupler using Schottky diode and active doubler, tripler, quadrupler and quintupler using PHEMT are researched and developed, respectively. Accoding to the requirement of lab project, the paper further designed multiplying and amplifying module, the performance of which well achieves what expected. Finally, measurement and tuning work are undertaken. The microwave active multiplier has advantages of high multiplying efficiency, high stability, and multiplying gain are all over the kind reported at home and abroad, which achieves the aim and meaning of the research of microwave multiplying technology.
